Strawberries!

I'm not sure if it will come to a shock to you to find out that my favorite food is the humble strawberry. Ever since I can remember I have been eating pints of them.

Well, it looks like someone found their crayola twistable colored pencils!

I actually am obsessed with every fruit, out of everyone I have tried I haven't found one that I haven't liked. As a result of my passion for fruit, my mother decided to nickname me the "fruit whore." Endearing right? Well, I guess the nicknames serves  me right. I will literally eat a carton of raspberries in one sitting, and those suckers are not cheap. My mother gets quite mad when I will down $10 worth of fruit for an afternoon snack, but I always tell her that it's better than me eating potato chips.

With that point, strawberries are pretty darn healthy! Due to some googleing I found out that strawberries help prevent cancer and alzheimer's disease, reduce the risk for coronary heart diseases, and they are an anti-inflammatory (whatever that means). Now you see why this is a valid excuse for my mother!!

But there is a warning with eating too much fruit, you might get sick. This could be a result of the sugar and some fruits are quite acidic. I learned this the hard way when I about 10 years old. I remember waking up in the middle of the night with the worst acid reflux, it literally felt like a tiny dinosaur was trying to claw its way out of my stomach and up my esophagus.

I hope this was a long enough explanation of my favorite food. Tomorrow I shall try to draw my favorite place! Where to choose!?!?!?

my favorite animal

Ever since about middle school I have always loved camels, I have no earthly idea what even started my fascination? I feel now is the moment when you all finally react with, "Wow! Really, camels?" and  I shall swiftly reply, "They are BEAUTIFUL CREATURES!"

When I learn to draw something, I tend to draw them everywhere. In middle school I drew camels on everything notebooks, folders, the bottom of my sneakers, white boards, my arm, and anywhere else. At first the camels that I drew were extremely cartoony with big googly eye and very cloud-like tuffs of hair, but now I guess you would say they are a more refined cartoon.

The first time I ever encountered a camel was the summer before my first year of high school. My family took a vacation to Eastern Europe, one stop being Ephesus, Turkey. After exploring the ancient ruins of the city of Ephesus, my father and I came upon a massive camel standing on the side of the road with a sign stating that you could ride it for the price of one euro. After a moment of begging I gave the stout turkish man, I suppose the camel's owner, a euro and I promptly hopped up the latter to saddle the beautiful creature. Once upon the camel's hump, I realized that I quite high up and I may have started to panic because I imagined the camel breaking loose from its rope and galloping off into the desert and I was forced to go with it. Well, that was the first time I had even seen a camel in person and it was quite the memorable experience, enjoy the picture!

don't i just look thrilled!
Oh my goodness, tomorrow I get to draw my favorite food!

30 DAY DRAWING CHALLENGE!

I know that right now it is the wee hours of Thursday, June 2nd and it is not June 1st, but lets just say it is.

I am embarking on a quest, the 30 Day Drawing Challenge!!!!!! This is something I was lucky enough to stumble upon, literally, and I have decided that I am going to do it dang it!!

Each day with the drawing challenge you are asked to draw something different, the initial drawing is to draw yourself.

I am an art student so drawing a picture of myself should be no problem, but in fact it is quite intimidating. This past semester I was in a painting class where our final project was to do a self portrait in the style of a famous artist, I chose Andy Warhol. This was a daunting assignment. I got a little into the project and decided that I was going to build my own canvas. I started out thinking maybe just a 2ftX2ft would do the job, but a week later I ended up with a 4ftX4ft canvas, that is 16 square feet of canvas! And let me give a word of advise to all of you, do not under any circumstances buy cheap gesso, it is not worth it! The cheap crap will just crack on you and you will have to spend hours sanding and re-gessoing and sanding and re-gessoing, it just not worth the $10 you will save, for GOODNESS SAKES SPLURGE! Well, after spending hours making the canvas and then spending an even longer amount of time painting I ended up with this…

not going to lie I am proud

Oh and here is the doodle of the day!

cartoony but good for a 10 minute sketch
Stay tuned for next time when I'll be drawing my favorite animal!! ahhhh
